In Luke 13:10-17 we read about a woman who had a spirit of infirmity, and was bent over for 18 years. She was unable to raise herself up, and as a consequence was constantly bowed forward. Jesus loosed her from this infirmity, and as he laid hands on her she was made straight.
We read that the ruler of the synagogue was indignant, because Jesus healed her on the Sabbath. Jesus’s great compassion for the woman, caused Him to respond with fire (we read in verse 16): “ … ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound—think of it—for eighteen years, be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath?”
I imagine that there are many people, who would happily subject others to a state of bondage, for the sake of preserving their status. I imagine that there are even more people who walk around burdened – perpetually hunched over – bowing to a false religion and a false god. I can think of a number of things that may keep us bent over, burdened and unable to loose or straighten ourselves from their yoke. It may be a boss at work, or even the hours we keep at work. It may be a relationship, it may be debt, and it may be a hidden sin. Whatever the god is that you are bowing to, it is subject to the authority of Jesus.
Jesus offers you His hand today, to set you free from the false god which you have been serving. All you need do, is take His hand and pay homage to Him. Embracing the sovereign grace of Jesus, means that we never have to bow to another, and we can always walk tall. His death, in effect, put to death all other false gods that seek to keep us in bondage. Call out to Him today, and watch Him straighten your life out.
Peace to you!
